This is Summer.  She's one of the new designs I did for the French Nest Market on June 16th.  Her friends, Spring, Fall, and Winter will be there too.  (You can see Spring over at Between the End Pages.)

You are beautiful...

I've been doing an exorbitant number of posts this week.  I guess it's to make up for the coming weeks, when I'll be busy busy getting ready for the French Nest Market (and just because I like saying hello to all of you.) :)

This will be my first time selling at a craft fair.  I'm not quite sure what to expect, but I've been working on new card and print designs so that I can have a booth stocked full of pretty things.  I'll be adding lots of new items to my Etsy shop in the coming weeks as well.  This little bunny will be on note cards and 5'' x 7'' prints.

If you happen to live near Fort Collins, CO, then maybe you'd like to pop by the French Nest Market on June 16th to say hello!

Have you seen this lovely rainy day post by Julia Denos?

And if you live near Denver, have you been to the Yves Saint Laurent show at the Denver Art Museum?  We went on Sunday and it was really wonderful!

Little Bear

Here's a little bear that showed up in this morning's warm-up sketches.  I think Mondays make him nervous.

Also, I forgot to mention in last week's post that I am SCBWI's featured illustrator for May.  Thank you SCBWI!

2012 Fairytale Project: Beauty and the Beast

I had a bit of a hard time getting started on Beauty and the Beast, but once I found my way into it I really loved drawing and painting this scene.  I loved playing with the glowy light and I've become awfully fond of these two characters.  Thank you again to June for suggesting Beauty and the Beast.

I think for May I might do The Snow Queen, by Hans Christian Andersen.  But, for now I'm off to a glass of chai tea, sketching some otters, and working on promo stuff.  Happy Wednesday!

A happy day, a sad day, and Illustration Friday

This week's Illustration Friday prompt is "hitched".  These two little mice just got married and then hitched themselves to a star to see where it would take them.  A year ago today, I got hitched to an exceptionally wonderful man.  So, since it's the very first anniversary of being married to the beautiful Mr. Hughes, today is a very happy day!

In other news, you've probably already heard that Maurice Sendak died today, which makes this a very sad day.  I cried for a good long while this morning when I read the news.  There are several blog posts and interviews about the great Mr. Sendak that pay tribute much better than I could.  So here's a list of links that you might like to peruse as you think about Mr. Sendak and the fantastical world of terrible yellow eyes, moon jumpers, and chicken soup with rice.
